Almost anything you could want to do can be done here with skiing in the Pyrenees just 2 hours away, and glorious beaches all around the dynamic city. It is situated on the Bay of Biscay and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. Climbing, hiking, paragliding….anything and everything can be enjoyed here.

Spanish Literary Prize to Fernando Savater

Spain’s richest literary prize has just been awarded to writer and philosopher Fernando Savater. Himself a Spaniard, Savater was absolutely thrilled to win the Premio Planeta literary prize which, along with immense respect comes a monetary award of 601,000 euros.

There were more than 500 writers who entered the competition this year, but it was Savater with his novel La Hermandad de la Buena Suerte, which means “The Brotherhood of Good Luck” that shone above all of the rest. The novel is about a rich man who hires mercenaries to find a jockey who has disappeared the night before a big horse race in which he was supposed to ride the favoured mount.

San Sebastian Film Festival 2008

The San Sebastian Film Festival began back in 1953. It is held every year in this Spanish city, and although originally it was intended to honour only films of the Spanish language, nowadays films from all over the world are eligible to receive the prestigious awards that are awarded at the ceremony. Most winners of the awards are determined by a jury although there is also an audience award at the ceremony for the category “most popular film.”
