One of the if not the most famous species that is native to Spain is the Iberian Lynx. This incredible animal heads up however the list of the world’s most endangered big cats and few remain in the wild today. It is believed there are only around 160 remaining.

Whilst it was once common throughout Spain and Portugal and even parts of Southern France, today it stands on the edge of extinction which would make it the first species of cat to die out since the sabre-toothed tiger which happened over 10,000 years ago. It was the very first wild cat species to be listed as critically endangered on the IUCN (World Conservation Union) Red List of threatened species.
